Strips - additional strips of wood used to
attach and seal shutters to inside of window frame.
Painted Shutters
- typically made of bass wood which receives paint
well and allows a smooth and durable paint job.
Prime Coat
- the first layer of paint applied to a painted
shutter that seals the wood and allows for smooth
and durable subsequent coats of paint.
Stained Shutters
- typically made of pine or cedar wood which receives
pigmented stain well and allows for well defined
grain structure and a pleasing appearance.
Stiles
- solid pieces of precision trimmed framing that
runs vertical (or up and down) on the shutter,
typically the two outside pieces of framing for
the shutter.
Rails
- solid pieces of precision trimmed framing that
runs horizontal (or across) the shutter, typically
the top, bottom, and sometimes in the middle of
the framing for the shutter.
Raised Panel
- a solid panel of wood that has been precision
molded to create a high panel that falls to a
thinner edge. Raised panels add a dimensionally
aesthetic look to a shutter.
Cut-outs
- (cost = $15.00, one per panel) designs cut into
a panel to give it a custom look. Example: animal
or plant designs cut out of a raised-panel shutter.
