Shutter Definitions ...
Hanging Strips - additional strips of wood used to attach and seal shutters to inside of window frame.

Painted Shutters - typically made of bass wood which receives paint well and allows a smooth and durable paint job.

Prime Coat - the first layer of paint applied to a painted shutter that seals the wood and allows for smooth and durable subsequent coats of paint.

Stained Shutters - typically made of pine or cedar wood which receives pigmented stain well and allows for well defined grain structure and a pleasing appearance.

Stiles - solid pieces of precision trimmed framing that runs vertical (or up and down) on the shutter, typically the two outside pieces of framing for the shutter.

Rails - solid pieces of precision trimmed framing that runs horizontal (or across) the shutter, typically the top, bottom, and sometimes in the middle of the framing for the shutter.

Raised Panel - a solid panel of wood that has been precision molded to create a high panel that falls to a thinner edge. Raised panels add a dimensionally aesthetic look to a shutter.

Cut-outs - (cost = $15.00, one per panel) designs cut into a panel to give it a custom look. Example: animal or plant designs cut out of a raised-panel shutter.
